Tenants give Housing ACT the thumbs up

An independent survey of more than 1000 public housing tenants has found they are increasingly satisfied with the services they receive from Housing ACT.

ACT Housing and Community Services Minister Joy Burch today released the results of the 2010 ACT Housing Client Satisfaction Survey, which found 75 per cent of Housing ACT residents surveyed indicated they were satisfied with the services they received.

This was up from 71 per cent in the previous survey, and the 69 per cent satisfaction rate recorded in 2006-07. Ms Burch said the results reflected the dedication and ongoing work Housing ACT had put into improving service delivery in recent years.

“In the last five years Housing ACT has placed a greater emphasis on engaging with public housing tenants,” Ms Burch said.

“We expanded the size and involvement of the Joint Champions Group, a public housing tenant participation group that meets several times a year to discuss key areas of service delivery. The JCG is an invaluable forum for fostering a stronger Housing ACT and tenant relationship.”

The independent survey commissioned by Housing ACT and undertaken by TNS Social Research surveyed 1094 Housing ACT tenants as well as 554 community housing tenants, with both groups recording improved satisfaction levels compared with previous years. The survey allows Housing ACT and community housing providers to better understand tenant concerns in relation to the services they receive, including home maintenance.

The survey also found 78 per cent of community housing tenants were satisfied with the services they receive from their community housing provider — up from 73 per cent in the previous survey.

The survey also shows increasing satisfaction among Housing ACT tenants with responses to emergency maintenance and day-to-day maintenance.

“As a result of their housing, 92 per cent of pubic housing tenants say they are feeling more settled in their lives and 88 per cent said they are better able to manage money.”
