Film lovers are being offered the chance to take a trip through Europe from the comfort of a cinema seat with the launch of the 2012 Windows on Europe film festival during the National Multicultural Festival, which starts on Friday.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Joy Burch said the annual event would give people the chance to explore leading films from a range of European countries.
“The National Multicultural Festival is all about opening up the world to people, as shown by the Windows on Europe film festival,” Ms Burch said.
“With 15 films from 14 countries from across Europe this is a rare opportunity to indulge in world cinema.”
The festival is staged by the Delegation of the European Union to Australia and will run at the Dendy Cinema in Canberra City from 10 to 16 February.
The festival is one of the highlights of the 2012 National Multicultural Festival which runs from 10 to 12 February in the City.
Pop star Anthony Callea is the Headline Act at the opening night concert while wine guru Wolf Blass is the Face of the Festival.
“This year’s Festival is shaping up to be another memorable event with more stalls, better acts and heaps of attractions for people of all ages.
“But we’ve also taken care to ensure people can relax in the midst of all that is going on, with more seating than before along with an expanded rest area for families and the elderly.”
