Supporting Quality Early Childhood Education and Care

The ACT Labor Government understands that quality early childhood education and care plays a positive role in children’s early learning and development while allowing parents to contribute to the family budget.

That’s why the ACT Labor Government has committed to new National Quality Standards to ensure there are more qualified staff to help children learn and develop and that all children receive more individual care and attention.

The ACT Labor Government has been listening to families and the early childhood sector about the need for additional support and increasing the numbers of childcare places for children under two.

We have announced a $61 million package to support staff training and capital upgrades required to meet the new National Quality Standards, whilst increasing childcare places, and providing additional sites for childcare centres in areas of high demand.

The ACT Labor Government is:

- Upgrading Community Childcare Centres - $9 million

- Building an Early Childhood School at Franklin - $42.7 million

- Building an Early Childhood Centre at Holder - $7.5 million

- Immediately releasing five sites to the market for childcare use

- Providing Childcare Centre Grants - $250 thousand

- Supporting Early Childhood Scholarships- $785 thousand

In partnership with the Federal Labor Government, the ACT Labor Government is laying the foundation for a brighter future for all children and families in the ACT.

The Federal Labor Government has invested $17.1 billion over four years in early childhood:

- increasing the Childcare Rebate from 30% to 50% up to $7500   per year

- paying the Childcare Rebate fortnightly to parents and carers
