Liberals threaten quality childcare in Canberra

Labor Candidate for Canberra, Gai Brodtmann, joined ACT Minister for Children and Young People,Joy Burch, to visit the Jenny Wren Early Learning Centre to see Labor’s new National Quality Standard for early childhood education and care in action.
 
The Jenny Wren childcare centre is one of a handful of centres across the country that have been selected to trial the National Quality Standard.

Tuggeranong lakeside cafe upgrade

After 18 years serving Canberrans, the Jetty Cafe on Lake Tuggeranong has had a major upgrade funded through the ACT Government’s Minor New Works capital program.


The Minister for Community Services Joy Burch today opened the new $150,000 kitchen facility at the Cafe.


Ms Burch said the old kitchen was in bad shape and was failing to cater for the increasing number of organisations using the Tuggeranong Community and Function Centre.

Extra $19 million in ACT Budget for city’s most vulnerable

The 2010-11 ACT Budget commits an additional $19.15 million over four years to support Canberra’s most vulnerable, ACT Minister for Disability, Housing and Community Services Joy Burch told the community sector today.
 
Addressing the ACT Council of Social Service Community Sector Budget forum today, Ms Burch said the Budget reflected the ACT Government’s ongoing investment in the community sector and support of vulnerable members of the Canberra community.

Community park to honour acclaimed Australian artist

Member for Brindabella Joy Burch today dedicated a community park in Pearce in memory of internationally renowned Australian artist Rosalie Gascoigne.
 
Ms Burch was joined by Mrs Gascoigne’s family and close friends, as well as Member for Molonglo Andrew Barr, to unveil the Rosalie Gascoigne Community Park sign, located at the corner of Anstey and Sheehan streets near where the artist lived from 1969 until her death in 1999.
